The Career Center at Notre Dame will host the annual Fall Career Expo in the Joyce Center on Wednesday and Thursday from 4 p. m. through 8 p.m.The event will be attended by 277 organizations, said Hilary Flanagan, director of the Career Center. The first day will be focused on engineering and internship opportunities and the second day on full-time positions and post-graduate service opportunities. Flanagan said students can access detailed information on these organizations via GO IRISH, the Career Center’s recruiting database.According to Flanagan, a major goal of the Fall Career Expo is to help make the job, internship or volunteer search more accessible to students.“Too often in the job search, it feels like you are sending your application materials into a black hole,” Flanagan said. “The Fall Career Expo is a chance to interact with representatives from these organizations who are excited about the prospect of hiring ND students to join their organizations for internships and full-time positions. Many of the representatives are ND alumni, and they will be wearing ribbons that designate them as such. They are so excited to come back to campus and share with our current students their experiences.”Flanagan said the Career Center hopes to help all students, not just seniors, with this event. She said the Backstage Pass Program is designed specifically for students who are attending the Career Fair for the first time. Students participating in the program can arrive an hour early to the Career Fair and get to hear from recruiters in an informal space about how to make the most of their time, she said. The Career Center is also providing students with appropriate attire, for free, to wear to the Fall Career Expo or to interviews with the inauguration of the Career Center Clothes Closet, Flanagan said.“We were really excited that the ND community pulled together to allow us to host a Clothes Closet for the first time this year,” she said. “[Interview Center coordinator] Sarah Himschoot has led the effort through the Career Center to coordinate receipt of donations of gently used or brand new interviewing attire for our students. Many students are not able to afford additional attire for interviewing or attending career networking events where business or business casual attire is expected. Also, we have students who have left their interview attire at home or simply do not have enough for the amount of events they might need to attend in one week.”For students looking to prepare for the Fall Career Expo, Flanagan said she recommends researching the organizations that will be in attendance on GO IRISH. She also said students need to have a good attitude going into the fair.“Students need to remember to relax, be focused, smile and be prepared to follow up with employers after the event,” she said.Tags: Career Center, Fall Career Expo
Georgia Representative Terry England was presented the Georgia 4-H Green Jacket Award last month for his support of the youth development program. Sponsored by Georgia EMC, the green jacket award is presented annually to an individual who has exhibited outstanding support of the Georgia 4-H program. Georgia 4-H is operated by University of Georgia Extension and delivered to Georgia’s children through local Extension offices across the state. During the annual Georgia 4-H State Congress event held July 22-24 in Atlanta, England was presented a green 4-H blazer and an etched glass award.England chairs the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee and co-chairs the Agricultural Education Advisory Committee. “In order to have a strong 4-H program, you have to have a tremendous program; strong public support from the state, federal and local government; and strong private support,” said Georgia 4-H State Leader Arch Smith, minutes before presenting the jacket to England. “Representative England embodies all three of those things. He is a great friend of 4-H. He has always been a supporter of youth development programs, education and agriculture in Georgia. He has supported 4-H in his role as a public official. He is a 4-H donor, and he has been willing to find time to help with our educational program activities.”Smith thanked England for leading this year’s Georgia 4-H State Council, where he spoke to Georgia 4-H’ers about the importance of citizenship and voting.“He came up through the FFA organization and has become a true believer that 4-H is just as important to the success of developing young people,” Smith said. “My fondest moments have been spent with him in his office/barn/shop where we stand and talk about the old John Deere tractor from the 1950s that he’s working on restoring. Terry England is a down to earth public servant who has supported 4-H, and he is truly a friend to the 4-H’ers of Georgia.”After donning the green 4-H jacket, England accepted it on “behalf of the Georgians who have supported 4-H and Georgia Extension.” “My 10 years serving in the general assembly has been a lifelong dream and to stand here and wear this jacket and know our governor received it last year and our chancellor and my speaker received it recently…I don’t feel deserving of it,” England said. As a student, England was active in the Winder-Barrow County High School chapter of FFA. “My friends in 4-H received the same energy and the same drive that I was receiving wearing my blue corduroy jacket,” he said. The best tennis player in the world, Novak Đoković, arrived in Sarajevo on Monday, and accompanied by the founder of the “Archaeological Park: Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun” Foundation, Semir Osmaganić, he visited the pyramids in Visoko. As confirmed to Fena news agency from the Foundation, Djokovic’s arrival was prepared for two months and he so far visited the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun, the Foundation Museum and the prehistoric underground tunnels of Ravna. Djokovic is an extremely spiritual man who is interested in energy and spirituality, which is why he decided to visit the Bosnian Valley of the Pyramids, and it is planned that he will stay in BiH until Wednesday, accompanied by his parents.“Bosnian valley of pyramids is the largest world complex of pyramidal structures and an archaeological phenomenon that should be researched intensely.”This was one of the conclusions from international scientific conference in which 55 leading experts from 13 countries of the world participated. Today, this research is the largest global archaeological project that attracts dozens of thousands of tourists to Visoko every year.In addition to the Bosnian Pyramid of Sun and a complex of tunnels under the valley of pyramids whose electromagnetic, ultrasound and ionized energies have healing features, the Archaeological and Tourist Park Ravne 2 was opened in this are recently. This park covers around 40.000 square meters and offers a whole series of new contents to the visitors.“Archaeological and Tourist Park Ravne 2 is something new in Europe. This unique park is a combination of archaeological, tourist, recreational and energetic contents. We turned neglected wetlands into a beautiful natural ambience. There are yoga platforms, areas for meditation and relaxation. People feel comfortable here. When you arrange an area that has been neglected for 100 years, the soil starts breathing again and paying you back multiply. It is an area where soul gets to rest,” said Semir Osmanagić.When entering the complex of tunnels, visitors notice that the temperature is significantly lower than on the outside. Another interesting fact is that temperature in the tunnel is always the same – twelve degrees. It is scientifically proven that concentration of negative ions, which clear the atmosphere from bacteria and viruses, is significantly higher in the tunnel than usual, which explains the beneficial effect of the tunnel on human body.“A healing chamber is located 220 meters from the entrance to the underground tunnel labyrinth Ravne. People who have problems such as asthma, high blood pressure, elevated sugar and similar issues can solve them precisely by staying in this healing chamber. When we enter the tunnel, our body has no enemies, and our cells can work in peace and renew our body without disturbances,” Osmanagić said. After eleven years, this project became the most active archaeological locations in the world. Every year, hundreds of volunteers from all around the world come to Visoko, together with dozens of experts. In the past seven years, 2.350 volunteers from 62 countries from six continents actively worked in this area.Tunnels Ravne are located only several kilometers from the entrance to Visoko and the entire complex is open for public 365 days a year.
